Emmitsburg is a town in Frederick County in the US state of Maryland . Emmitsburg has 2290 inhabitants on an area of 3.0 km². The community is right on the Mason-Dixon Line on the border with the US state of Pennsylvania . Emmitsburg was founded in 1785. Emmitsburg is the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity with the gift of Elisabeth Anna Bayley Seton . This is also where Mount St. Mary's University and the National Fire Academy are based. Emmitsburg also has its own newspaper, The Emmitsburg Dispatch . The current mayor is James E. "Jim" Hoover .
