Gilbert Ignatius Sheldon (born September 20, 1926 in Cleveland , Ohio , USA ) is former bishop of Steubenville .

Life

Gilbert Ignatius Sheldon received on 28 February in 1953 by Archbishop Edward Francis Hoban the priesthood for the Diocese of Cleveland .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on April 12, 1976 titular bishop of Taparura and auxiliary bishop in Cleveland. He received his episcopal ordination on June 11th of that year by the Bishop of Cleveland, James Aloysius Hickey ; Co- consecrators were Joseph Louis Bernardin , Archbishop of Cincinnati , and Clarence George Issenmann , Bishop Emeritus of Cleveland.

On January 28, 1992, Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Steubenville and on May 31, 2002, he accepted his resignation because of his age.
