Paul Joseph Swain (born September 12, 1943 in Newark , New York ) is an American clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic bishop of Sioux Falls .

Life

Paul Joseph Swain converted from the Methodist Church to the Roman Catholic Church at the age of 39 . He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Madison on May 27, 1988 .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of Sioux Falls on August 31, 2006. The Archbishop of Saint Paul and Minneapolis , Harry Joseph Flynn , donated him episcopal ordination on October 26 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Robert James Carlson , Bishop of Saginaw , and Bishop Emeritus of Madison, William Henry Bullock .

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on December 12, 2019.
