Oscar Cantú (born December 5, 1966 in Houston , USA ) is an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of San Jose, California .

Life

Oscar Cantú was on 6 November 1993 the auxiliary bishop of Galveston-Houston , James Anthony Tamayo , the deacon ordained. He received on 21 May 1994, the Archbishop of Galveston-Houston, Joseph Anthony Fiorenza , the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On April 10, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . as titular bishop of Dardanus and auxiliary bishop in San Antonio . The Archbishop of San Antonio, José Horacio Gómez , donated him episcopal ordination on June 2nd of the same year ; Co - consecrators were the Auxiliary Bishop of Galveston-Houston, Joe Steve Vásquez , and the Archbishop Emeritus of Galveston-Houston, Joseph Anthony Fiorenza. From May 26 to October 14, 2010, Oscar Cantú was also Apostolic Administrator of San Antonio.

On January 10, 2013 Benedict XVI appointed him. to the Bishop of Las Cruces ; he was inducted into office on February 24 of the same year. Pope Francis appointed him coadjutor bishop of San Jose, California on July 11, 2018 .

With Patrick Joseph McGrath's resignation on May 1, 2019, he succeeded him as Bishop of San Jose in California.

Cantú is a critic of US President Donald Trump : "Trump has a habit of saying horrific things because they bring applause without thinking about the consequences or details."
