Joseph Francis Maguire (born September 4, 1919 in Boston , Massachusetts , † November 23, 2014 in Springfield , Massachusetts) was Bishop of Springfield .

Life

Joseph Francis Maguire first graduated from Boston College (Bachelor of Arts; 1941). he entered St. John's Seminary in Brighton and studied theology and philosophy. He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1945 in the Holy Cross Cathedral in Boston. After pastoral work in the Archdiocese of Boston , he was military chaplain to the US Army Reserve and Mass from 1956 to 1959 . National Guard . From 1962 to 1971 he was Personal Secretary to the Archbishops of Boston Cardinal Richard Cushing and Cardinal Humberto Medeiros .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on December 1, 1971 auxiliary bishop in Boston and titular bishop of Mactaris . The Archbishop of Boston, Humberto Sousa Medeiros , donated him episcopal ordination on February 2, 1972 ; Co-consecrators were the Boston auxiliary bishops Jeremiah Francis Minihan and Thomas Joseph Riley . In support of Christopher Joseph Weldon , he was appointed coadjutor bishop of Springfield on April 13, 1976 . Pope Paul VI appointed him Bishop of Springfield on October 15, 1977.

On December 27, 1991, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
