Leonid Brumberg
Leonid Efimowitsch Brumberg ( Russian Леонид Ефимович Брумберг ; born April 30, 1925 in Rostov-on-Don ; † August 20, 2010 in Vienna ) was a Soviet Russian pianist , of Jewish origin.
Brumberg received his training at the Moscow Conservatory with Heinrich Neuhaus (piano), Nikolai Mjaskowski (composition) and Dmitri Schostakowitsch (instrumentation). After completing his studies, he began a concert career, which was limited to the USSR and the Eastern Bloc until he emigrated in 1981 . Freed from the constraints of state administration, he then began to concert internationally. He worked with well-known conductors such as Gennady Roshdestvensky , Evgeny Svetlanov , Kyrill Kondrashin and Zubin Mehta . He was a regular guest at the Rheingau Music Festival , where he performed all of Chopin's works in 1996. His pianistic achievements are documented on numerous sound carriers.
As a pedagogue, he first became the assistant to his teacher Neuhaus, before taking on a professorship at the Gnessin Institute . After his emigration he settled in Vienna, where he held a professorship at the city conservatory from 1982 to 1998 .
