Timothy Anthony McDonnell

Timothy Anthony McDonnell (born December 23, 1937 in New York City ) is Bishop Emeritus of Springfield .

Life

After studying Catholic theology and philosophy at St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers received Timothy McDonnell on June 1, 1963 by the New York archbishop , Francis Cardinal Spellman , in St. Patrick's Cathedral , the ordination .

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Semina and auxiliary bishop in New York on October 30, 2001 . The episcopal ordination donated him the Archbishop of New York, Edward Michael Cardinal Egan , on December 12 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Henry Joseph Mansell , Bishop of Buffalo , and Robert Anthony Brucato , Auxiliary Bishop of New York. Cardinal Egan also appointed him Vicar General in the Archdiocese of New York in 2002 .

On March 9, 2004, John Paul II called him Bishop of Springfield; on April 1 of the same year, McDonnell was ceremonially inducted into office.

He was invested in the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem in 2004 at St. Michael's Cathedral in Springfield .

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on June 19, 2014.
