Joel Matthias Konzen SM (born November 6, 1950 in Oak Harbor , Ohio ) is an American religious and Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in Atlanta .

Life

Joel Konzen attended the Josephinum Pontifical College in Columbus from 1964 to 1968 and then graduated from the Saint Meinrad Seminary in Indiana with a degree in English literature . From 1972 he studied at the Notre Dame School of Theology in New Orleans and joined the community of Marist Fathers in 1974 . He made his first profession in 1975 and continued his studies at the Marist College in Washington, DC . After serving as a seminarian of his order at Saint Peter Chanel High School in Bedford , he earned a master's degree in theology from the Catholic University of America in 1978 and a year later the Master of Divinity in New Orleans. On May 19, 1979, he received the sacrament of ordination .

After a short time in pastoral care, he worked as a teacher and in the direction of various schools of the Marist Order. From 1989 to 1991 he studied Educational Administration at the Catholic University of America and also obtained a master's degree here. From 1992 to 1992 and again from 1997 to 1999 he was Vicar Provincial of the Marists in Washington. Since 1999 he has been the headmaster of the Marist School in Atlanta .

On February 5, 2018 Pope appointed him Francis to the titular of Leavenworth and auxiliary bishop in Atlanta. The Archbishop of Atlanta, Wilton Daniel Gregory , ordained him episcopal on April 3 of that year . Co- consecrators were Bernard Shlesinger , Auxiliary Bishop of Atlanta, and Archbishop of Mobile , Thomas John Rodi .
