Oak Harbor is a village in County Ottawa in the American state of Ohio , about 40 km southeast of Toledo . The village has a population of around 2,800 (as of the 2000 census ). The Portage River flows through the community .
history
Oak Harbor was founded in 1832. Oak Harbor is located in the access area of the Marblehead Peninsula , a peninsula that protrudes about 30 km into Lake Erie . The largest place on the Marblehead Peninsula is Port Clinton . 1902-1905 the railway line of the Toledo, Port Clinton & Lakeside Railway (TPC & L) was built, the Toledo with the places of the peninsula varband. The route led through Oak Harbor.
economy
The orchards of the Oak Harbor Fruit Company were and are an important economic factor . The community celebrates the "Apple Festival" every year.
The Davis Besse nuclear power plant , which was commissioned in 1978, is located near Oak Harbor . There it almost came to a core meltdown on June 9, 1985 .
