Francis Edward Hyland

Francis Edward Hyland (born October 9, 1901 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , USA ; † January 31, 1968 ) was Bishop of Atlanta .

Life

Paul John Hallinan received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia on June 11, 1927 through Auxiliary Bishop Michael Joseph Crane .

On October 15, 1949, Pope Pius XII appointed him . as titular bishop of Gomphi and auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Savannah-Atlanta . The Archbishop of Philadelphia, Denis Joseph Cardinal Dougherty , donated him episcopal ordination on December 21 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops Hugh Louis Lamb and Joseph Carroll McCormick .

On July 17, 1956, Pope Pius XII appointed him. as the first bishop of the newly established diocese of Atlanta . The inauguration took place on November 8th of the same year.

On October 11, 1961, Hyland resigned as Bishop of Atlanta and was replaced by Pope John XXIII. appointed titular bishop of Bisica .
