Textrix denticulata is a species of the genus Textrix in the family of funnel spiders (Agelenidae). The species isusually described as rarein Central Europe , but can be very common locally.

features

Both sexes reach a body length of 6 to 8 mm. Females and males do not differ in terms of color and drawing.

The basic color of the body is black to black-brown. The front body ( prosoma ) shows a broad white central band on this basis. The black to black-brown rear body ( opisthosoma ) shows a reddish-brown longitudinal band in the middle, at the edges of which there are indicated white angular spots. The heavily bristled legs are brown with black spots and ringlets. The very long spinnerets are striking.

distribution and habitat

The species inhabits the western Palearctic and is largely restricted to western Europe. The distribution area extends in north-south direction from northern Scotland, Sweden and Norway to central Spain, central Italy and Turkey, in west-east direction from Ireland and Portugal to the Baltic States , Poland and Moldova . The species is not often found in Germany, and the geographical focus of distribution cannot be identified.

The species lives in moderately dry to dry deciduous and coniferous forests, where it occurs in the litter layer and especially on tree trunks. In addition, rock and house walls are also populated.

Way of life

The animals build their small funnel network in the litter layer and in crevices in the bark and rock. Sexually mature animals occur from May to October.

Existence and endangerment

The species is widespread. It is usually described as rare in Central Europe, but it can be very common locally. In Germany, T. denticulata is classified as "endangered" in the red lists of several federal states.
