Peter Michael Muhich (born May 13, 1961 in Eveleth , Minnesota ) is an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Rapid City .

Life

After graduating from high school , Peter Michael Muhich initially studied history up to a bachelor's degree at the University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul . For his ecclesiastical studies he went to the American College of the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium, where he also obtained a licentiate in theology. On September 29, 1989 he received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Duluth .

Until 2009 he worked in various parishes in pastoral care. In 2009 he became administrator and subsequently rector of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary in Duluth. A year later he also took over the management of two other parishes in Duluth. Since 2002 he has been a member of the Clergy Personnel Commission and since 2007 the Diocesan Economic Council. From 1993 to 1996 he was a member of the college of consultors and the council of priests . He had been a member of the latter since 2014.

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Rapid City on May 12, 2020. The Archbishop of Saint Paul and Minneapolis , Bernard Hebda , ordained him episcopal on July 9 of that year in Rapid City Cathedral . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Saginaw , Robert Dwayne Gruss , and the Bishop of Sioux Falls , Donald Edward DeGrood .
