René Henry Gracida (born June 9, 1923 in New Orleans ) is a former Roman Catholic Bishop of Corpus Christi .

Life

René Henry Gracida was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Miami on May 23, 1959 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on December 6, 1971 auxiliary bishop in Miami and titular bishop of Masuccaba . The Archbishop of Detroit , Cardinal John Francis Dearden , ordained him bishop on January 25 of the next year ; Co- consecrators were Coleman Francis Carroll , Archbishop of Miami, and Paul Francis Tanner , Bishop of Saint Augustine .

On October 1, 1975, he was appointed the first bishop of the newly formed diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee , and on November 6 of the same year he was appointed to the office. He was named Bishop of Corpus Christi on May 19, 1983, and was instituted on July 11 of the same year. On April 1, 1997, he resigned from his position.
