Joseph Keith Symons

Joseph Keith Symons (born October 14, 1932 in Champion Township , Marquette County , Michigan ) is an American clergyman and bishop emeritus of Palm Beach .

After studying theology , he was on 18 May in 1958 for the Roman Catholic Diocese of St. Augustine for priests ordained.

On January 16, 1981 he was appointed auxiliary bishop in Saint Petersburg and titular bishop of Sigus by Pope John Paul II . He received episcopal ordination on March 19, 1981 by the Bishop of Saint Petersburg, William Thomas Larkin . Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Miami , Edward Anthony McCarthy , and the Archbishop of Louisville , Thomas Joseph McDonough . He was appointed bishop of Pensacola-Tallahassee on October 4, 1983 and installed there on November 8 of the same year. On June 12, 1990, he became Bishop of Palm Beach . It was introduced on July 31, 1990.

He resigned as Bishop of Palm Beach on June 6, 1998. The reason for his resignation was that he had sexually abused five minors in the early years of his priesthood.
