Thomas Joseph Drury

Thomas Joseph Drury (born January 4, 1908 in Ballynote , Munster , Ireland , † July 22, 1992 ) was an Irish-born, American clergyman and bishop of Corpus Christi .

Life

Thomas Joseph Drury received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Amarillo on May 30, 1935 .

Pope John XXIII appointed him on October 30, 1961 first bishop of San Angelo . The Archbishop of San Antonio , Robert Emmet Lucey , ordained him episcopal on January 24 of the following year; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Amarillo, John Louis Morkovsky , and Auxiliary Bishop Stephen Aloysius Leven of San Antonio.

Drury attended all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.

Pope Paul VI appointed Drury on July 19, 1965 Bishop of Corpus Christi , after a few days earlier parts of the diocese had been separated to establish the Diocese of Brownsville .

Drury promoted the implementation of the decisions of the Second Vatican Council in his diocese and convened a pastoral diocesan council. He founded a diocese newspaper and made preparations possible for founding his own radio station.

On May 19, 1983, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
