Thomas Ambrose Tschoepe

Thomas Ambrose Tschoepe (born December 17, 1915 in Pilot Point , Texas , USA , † January 24, 2009 in Dallas , Texas) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Dallas .

Life

Thomas Ambrose Tschoepe studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus , Ohio . He was ordained a priest on May 30, 1943 in Worthington, Ohio . He was pastor in Sherman, Fort Worth, and Dallas, and later he became Chancellor and Vicar General of the Diocese of Dallas. In 1962 he was appointed monsignor .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on January 12, 1966 second bishop of the diocese of San Angelo . He was ordained episcopal on March 9th of the same year by the Bishop of Dallas, Thomas Kiely Gorman ; Co- consecrators were Leo Aloysius Pursley , Bishop of Fort Wayne , and Lawrence Michael De Falco , Bishop of Amarillo .

On August 27, 1969, he was named fifth bishop of Dallas. The inauguration took place on October 29 of the same year. During his tenure, the Diocese of Tyler was founded in 1987 , from the Diocese of Dallas, 21 districts were incorporated into the new diocese.

Pope John Paul II granted his resignation on July 14, 1990, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Diocese of Dallas by Pope Leo XIII.
