Peter Verdaguer y Prat

Peter Verdaguer y Prat (born December 10, 1835 in Sant Pere de Torelló , Spain , † October 26, 1911 in Mercedes , Texas , USA ) was Vicar Apostolic of Brownsville .

Life

Peter Verdaguer y Prat studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the seminaries in Vic and Barcelona and at St. Vincent's Seminary in Cape Girardeau , Missouri . He received on 12 December 1862 the Bishop of Monterey-Los Angeles , Thaddeus Amat y Brusi CM , the sacrament of Holy Orders . Verdaguer y Prat then worked as a pastor in San Bernardino and Los Angeles .

On July 25, 1890 Pope Leo XIII appointed him . the titular bishop of Aulon and ordered him Vicar Apostolic of Brownsville. The Bishop of Barcelona , Jaime Catalá y Albosa , ordained him episcopal on November 9th of the same year in Barcelona ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Vic , José Morgades y Gili , and the Bishop of Lérida , José Meseguer y Costa . On his return to the United States, he moved the seat of the Vicariate Apostolic Brownsville from Corpus Christi to Laredo .

His grave is in Laredo Catholic Cemetery .
