Edmond Carmody

Edmond Carmody (born January 12, 1934 in Ahalane , County Kerry , Ireland ) is an American clergyman of the Roman Catholic Church and former Bishop of Corpus Christi .

Life

Born in Ireland, Edmond Carmody, who attended St. Patrick's College in Carlow in his home country , was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of San Antonio on June 8, 1957 . In the following years he carried out various activities, including traveling to Peru in 1984 for missionary purposes .

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in San Antonio and titular bishop of Murthlacum on November 8, 1988 . The Archbishop of San Antonio, Patrick Fernández Flores , donated him episcopal ordination on December 15 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Charles Victor Grahmann , Bishop of Victoria in Texas , and Charles Edwin Herzig , Bishop of Tyler .

He was named bishop of Tyler on March 24, 1992, and was appointed bishop of Tyler on May 25 of the same year. He was appointed bishop of Corpus Christi on February 3, 2000, and was instituted on March 17 of the same year. In 2006, Carmody founded John Paul II High School , where he taught church history from 2010 to 2012.

On January 18, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement. In 2012 he returned to Tyler where he currently lives.
