Charles Edwin Herzig

Charles Edwin Herzig (born August 14, 1929 in San Antonio , Texas , USA ; † September 7, 1991 ) was Bishop of Tyler .

Life

Charles Edwin Herzig received on 31 May 1955, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On December 12, 1986, Pope John Paul II appointed him first bishop of the diocese of Tyler, which was established on the same date . The Archbishop of San Antonio , Patrick Fernández Flores , donated him episcopal ordination on February 24, 1987 ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Dallas , Thomas Ambrose Tschoepe , and the Bishop of Lubbock , Michael Jarboe Sheehan . His motto was To Build Up the Body of Christ .

Charles Edwin Herzig found his final resting place in Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler. Every year on the anniversary of his death, the Diocese of Tyler awards the Bishop Charles E. Herzig Humanitarian Award for special charitable work.
