Joseph Leopold Imesch

Joseph Leopold Imesch (born June 21, 1931 in Grosse Pointe Farms , Wayne County , Michigan ; † December 22, 2015 in Joliet , Illinois ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Joliet in Illinois .

Life

Joseph Leopold Imesch was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on December 16, 1956 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on February 8, 1973 auxiliary bishop in Detroit and titular bishop of Pomaria . The Archbishop of Detroit, Cardinal John Francis Dearden , ordained him episcopal on April 3 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were the Detroit auxiliary bishops Walter Joseph Schoenherr and Thomas John Gumbleton .

On June 30, 1979, Imesch was appointed Bishop of Joliet in Illinois by Pope John Paul II and was introduced to the office on August 28 of the same year. On May 16, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.
