Martin Dewey McNamara
Martin Dewey McNamara (born May 12, 1898 in Chicago , USA ; † May 23, 1966 ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and the first bishop of Joliet in Illinois .
Life
Martin Dewey McNamara received on 23 December 1922, the sacrament of Holy Orders .
On December 17, 1948, Pope Pius XII appointed him . first bishop of the Joliet diocese in Illinois, established a few days earlier. The Archbishop of Chicago , Samuel Cardinal Stritch , donated him episcopal ordination on March 7, 1949 ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Rockford , John Joseph Boylan , and the Bishop of Belleville , Albert Rudolph Zuroweste .
