Justus T. Strauch

Justus Thomas Strauch (born July 25, 1968 in Hildesheim ) is a German cardiac and thoracic surgeon and director of the Clinic for Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery at the Bergmannsheil University Hospital , which is part of the University Hospital of the Ruhr University Bochum (UK RUB).

Life

Justus T. Strauch studied medicine at the Hannover Medical School . After obtaining his license to practice medicine, he first worked in the Department of Thoracic, Cardiac and Vascular Surgery at the Georg-August University of Göttingen ( University Medicine ), later in the Department of Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena ( University Hospital ) . Strauch spent two years doing research at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York .

In 2005 he moved to the University of Cologne ( University Clinic ). Here Strauch became a senior physician in cardiac and thoracic surgery. In 2006 he took over the management of the Thoracic Surgery department and also completed his habilitation there. In 2008 he became head of the minimally invasive aortic valve surgery department. On November 1, 2010, Strauch was appointed the new director of the Bergmannsheil Clinic for Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery. The hospital is the location of the University Clinic of the Ruhr University Bochum (UK RUB).

  • 2008 Science Prize of the Ulrich Karsten Foundation, Research Prize of the German Society for Thoracic, Cardiac and Vascular Surgery, awarded at the third joint annual meeting of the German, Austrian and Swiss Societies, Innsbruck (Lecture: The antegrade selective brain perfusion - A neuroprotective procedure in the thoracic aortic surgery)
