John Baptist Franz

John Baptist Franz (born October 29, 1896 in Springfield , Illinois , United States ; † July 3, 1992 ) was an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Peoria and previously the first bishop of Dodge City .

Life

On June 13, 1920, John Baptist Franz was ordained a priest for the diocese of Alton .

Pope Pius XII appointed him on May 27, 1951 first bishop of the diocese of Dodge City established a few days earlier . The Archbishop of Chicago , Samuel Alphonse Cardinal Stritch , donated him episcopal ordination on August 29 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Mark Kenny Carroll , Bishop of Wichita , and William Aloysius O'Connor , Bishop of Springfield, Illinois .

On August 8, 1959, Pope John XXIII appointed him . to the Bishop of Peoria .

John Baptist Franz participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.

Pope Paul VI accepted his resignation on May 24, 1971.
