Jerome Joseph Hastrich

Jerome Joseph Hastrich (born November 13, 1914 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin , † May 12, 1995 in Gallup , New Mexico ) was an American Roman Catholic clergyman. Hastrich was most recently bishop of the Gallup diocese .

Life

Jerome Hastrich was born in Milwaukee, the eldest of three children of George P. and Clara Hastrich. His brother George (1925-2014) later also became a priest.

Hastrich was ordained a priest on February 9, 1941 in Milwaukee . He then served as a chaplain at churches in Madison , Wisconsin. When on December 22, 1945 Pope Pius XII. Founded the diocese of Madison , Hastrich was appointed private secretary to the first diocesan bishop, William Patrick O'Connor , only a few months later, in 1946 . In 1952 he was appointed chancellor of the diocese.

Pope Paul VI appointed Hastrich on July 25, 1963 auxiliary bishop in Madison and titular bishop of Gurza . He received his episcopal ordination on September 3, 1963 Bishop O'Connor and his co-consecrators, Bishops Stanislaus Vincent Bona and John Patrick Treacy .

After six years as Auxiliary Bishop of Madison, Pope Paul VI appointed. Hastrich Bishop of Gallup on August 25, 1969. Pope John Paul II accepted Hastrich's resignation on March 31, 1990.
