Bryan Joseph McEntegart

Bryan Joseph McEntegart (born January 5, 1893 in New York City , † September 30, 1968 in Fort Greene , Brooklyn ) was an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Brooklyn .

Bryan Joseph McEntegart initially studied at Manhattan College , a private Catholic university in New York's Bronx . After graduating in 1913, he entered Saint Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers . After his theological training, he was ordained a priest in 1917 . In 1918 he graduated with a Masters degree from the Catholic University of America . He has been involved in welfare work for many years and has been President of the Child Welfare League of America as well as the National Conference of Catholic Charities and Catholic Relief Services. He was a long-time director of United Service Organizations .

Pope Pius XII appointed him Bishop of Ogdensburg in 1943 . From 1953 to 1957 he was the rector of the Catholic University of America . In 1957 he was named Bishop of Brooklyn . McEntegart served as the Council Father for all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965 . Pope Paul VI granted him the personal title of Titular Archbishop of Gabi in 1966 . For health reasons, Pope Paul VI. his resignation in 1968. He was succeeded as bishop by Francis J. Mugavero .
