Francis Joseph Monaghan (born October 30, 1890 in Newark , New Jersey , USA ; † November 13, 1942 in Watertown , New York ) was Bishop of Ogdensburg .

Life

Francis Joseph Monaghan studied Philosophy and Catholic Theology at Seton Hall College in South Orange . In 1911 Monaghan earned a Bachelor of Arts and in 1913 a Master of Arts . He then continued his studies at the Pontifical North America College in Rome . He received on 29 May 1915 by the Cardinal Vicar of Rome , Basilio Cardinal Pompili , the sacrament of Holy Orders . That same year, Monaghan became a doctor of theology doctorate .

In 1915, Francis Joseph Monaghan became curate of St. Paul of the Cross Church in Jersey City . In 1926 he became Professor of Dogmatics and Metaphysics at the Immaculate Conception Seminary . Monaghan was President of Seton Hall College from 1933 to 1936 . In 1934 he was awarded the honorary title of Papal Chamberlain .

On April 17, 1936, Pope Pius XI appointed him . the titular bishop of Mela and it ordered the Coadjutor Bishop of Ogdensburg. The Bishop of Newark , Thomas Joseph Walsh , ordained him episcopal on June 29 of that year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Ogdensburg, Joseph Henry Conroy , and the Auxiliary Bishop of Newark, Thomas Henry McLaughlin .

On March 20, 1939, Francis Joseph Monaghan succeeded the late Joseph Henry Conroy as Bishop of Ogdensburg.
