Basilio Pompili
Basilio Cardinal Pompili (also Pompilj , born April 16, 1858 in Spoleto , Umbria , Papal States , † May 5, 1931 in Rome ) was a Curia Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church and served as Cardinal Vicar from 1913 until his death .
Life
Basilio Pompili studied at the Pontifical Roman Seminary in Rome the subjects philosophy and Catholic theology . He received on December 5, 1888 sacrament of Holy Orders , and then worked as a parish pastor in the Diocese of Rome . From 1891 he worked as an auditor for the Council Congregation of the Curia . In 1896 he became an employee of the Apostolic Penitentiary , in 1898 prelate of the Council Congregation and in 1899 he was appointed Apostolic Protonotary . On July 18, 1904, he became an auditor of the Roman Rota and on January 31, 1908, Pope Pius X appointed him secretary of the Council Congregation. On November 27, 1911, Basilio Pompili was admitted to the College of Cardinals as a cardinal deacon with the title deaconry Santa Maria in Domnica .
On April 7, 1913 he was appointed cardinal vicar and on May 5, 1913 titular archbishop of Philippi and auxiliary bishop in Rome. He was ordained bishop on May 11th of the same year by the Cardinal Bishop of Albano , Antonio Agliardi ; Co- consecrators were Donato Raffaele Sbarretti , Secretary of the Congregation for Religious , and Americo Bevilacqua , Bishop of Alatri . Basilio Pompili attended the conclave in both 1914 and 1922 . On October 28, 1914 he became archpriest of the Lateran Basilica , in March 1917 Cardinal Bishop of Velletri . As a papal legate , he represented the Pope several times at celebrations.
On July 9, 1930, he became Sub- Dean of the College of Cardinals. Basilio Pompili died on May 5, 1931 in Rome and was buried in the Campo Verano cemetery there. In 1933 his bones were transferred to the Cathedral of Spoleto.
