Antonio Cardinal Agliardi (born September 4, 1832 in Cologno al Serio , Bergamo Province , Italy , † March 19, 1915 in Rome ) was a diplomat of the Holy See and cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

On December 22, 1855, Agliardi received the sacrament of ordination . On September 23, 1884 he was appointed Titular Archbishop of in Palestine Caesarea nominated and received on 12 October of the same year by Giovanni Cardinal Simeoni the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were the future cardinal Archbishop Domenico Maria Jacobini and Archbishop Camillo Santori . He became a member of the Roman Curia for papal diplomacy. In 1884 he was first apostolic delegate in India , later Agliardi was among other things Apostolic Nuncio in Bavaria and Austria .

On June 22, 1896, Pope Leo XIII took him . as a cardinal priest with the titular church Santi Nereo ed Achilleo in the college of cardinals . On December 15, 1896, he became Cardinal Protector of the Cistercian Order . On December 14, 1899, he was raised to Cardinal Bishop of Albano . He took part in the conclave of 1903 , which Pius X elected Pope, and in the 1914 conclave , from which Benedict XV. emerged as Pope. From 1908 he was Chancellor of the Papal Chancellery .

Since 1895 he was an honorary member of the Catholic student association KaV Norica Vienna .
