Isidoro Verga

Isidoro Verga (born April 29, 1832 in Bassano Taverina , † August 10, 1899 in Rome ) was an Italian canon lawyer and curia cardinal .

Life

In 1859 Isidoro Verga was ordained a priest . The studied theologian and canon lawyer was later a judge at the Roman Rota . From 1877 he was Pro-Secretary and from 1878 Secretary of the Council Congregation (today Congregation for the Clergy ).

In the consistory of November 10, 1884 Verga was by Pope Leo XIII. the cardinal created and shortly afterwards Cardinal Deacon of Sant'Angelo in Pescheria appointed. From July 1885 Cardinal Verga was Prefect of the Apostolic Signature and then from 1888 to 1896 Prefect of the Congregation for Religions . In 1891 he received the title deaconry Santa Maria in Via Lata and in 1896 Verga was accepted into the class of cardinal priests with the titular church of San Callisto . In October of the same year the Pope appointed him cardinal major penitentiary and in November 1896 cardinal bishop of the diocese of Albano . He received his episcopal consecration on December 13, 1896, Cardinal Dean Luigi Oreglia di Santo Stefano ; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Cesare Sambucetti , Secretary of the Congregation for Ceremonies , and Archbishop Beniamino Cavicchioni .
