Beniamino Cavicchioni

Beniamino Cardinal Cavicchioni (born December 27, 1836 in Vejano , † April 17, 1911 in Rome ) was a diplomat of the Holy See and cardinal of the Curia .

Life

He studied at the University of La Sapienza , where he the PhD Doctor of Laws gained. After his ordination on December 18, 1859, he was professor of literature in Vetralla , from which post he resigned to do further studies in Rome. In 1872 he entered the “study” of the Council Congregation as an officer. In 1875 he became a minutant of the Congregatio de Propaganda Fide , responsible for the United States . The house prelate had been working as a marriage bond defender in the Council Congregation since 1883 .

On March 21, 1884, the Pope appointed him Apostolic Delegate in Ecuador , Peru and Bolivia and Titular Archbishop of Amida . He received his episcopal ordination from the Cardinal Prefect of the Apostolic Signature , Lorenzo Baldisseri , on April 27 of the same year in the Church of Santa Maria Assunta on the grounds of the Pontifical North America College ; Co- consecrators were Mario Mocenni , substitute for the State Secretariat , and Domenico Maria Jacobini , Secretary of the Congregatio de Propaganda Fide . On July 4, 1885, he became canon of the Lateran Basilica and on January 11, 1894, he received the titular Archdiocese of Nazianzus . He was Pro-Secretary of the Council Congregation since October 22, 1895 and rose to Secretary of the Council Congregation on January 11, 1900.

Pope Leo XIII. took him on June 22, 1903 as a cardinal priest in the college of cardinals and he received on June 25 of the same year the titular church of Santa Maria in Ara Coeli . He participated in the papal conclave, 1903 , Pope Pius X chose part. On March 11, 1910, he was appointed Cardinal Prefect of the Study Congregation .

He was buried in the Campo Verano cemetery.
