Domenico Agostini (born May 31, 1825 in Treviso , Italy , † December 31, 1891 in Venice ) was Patriarch of Venice and Cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

Domenico Agostini studied theology in Treviso, then philosophy and law in Padua, where he received his doctorate in both subjects . He was ordained a priest on January 26, 1851 by the Patriarch of Venice , Cardinal Monico . From 1863 Agostini was archpriest in the cathedral chapter of Treviso before he became bishop of Chioggia in 1871 . He was ordained bishop on December 17, 1871 in Venice by Cardinal Giuseppe Luigi Trevisanato , Patriarch of Venice; Co- consecrators were Federico Maria Zinelli , Bishop of Treviso , and Salvatore Giovanni Battista Bolognesi , Bishop of Belluno e Feltre . Agostini was Patriarch of Venice from 1877 until his death in 1891.

He was in the consistory on March 27, 1882 by Pope Leo XIII. accepted into the college of cardinals, at the same time he was assigned the titular church of Sant'Eusebio . In 1886 he moved to the titular church of Santa Maria della Pace .

After his death in 1891, Domenico Agostini was buried in the San Michele cemetery in Venice.
