The diocese of Velletri was a Roman Catholic diocese located in Italy with its seat in Velletri , which existed independently between the 5th century and 1060 and was then linked to the suburbicarian diocese of Ostia in personal union until 1914 . It opened in 1986 in the suburbicarian diocese of Velletri-Segni .

history

The Velletri diocese was established in the 5th century. In 1060 Velletri was connected to the suburbicarian diocese of Ostia in personal union under Bishop Petrus Damianus OSB .

It was not until 1914 that Pope Pius X dissolved the connection between the two dioceses of Ostia and Velletri with the Motu proprio Edita a nobis . The Diocese of Velletri later gave parts of its territory to the Diocese of Latina , which eventually became the Diocese of Latina-Terracina-Sezze-Priverno .

On October 20, 1981, Pope John Paul II united the diocese of Velletri aeque principaliter with the diocese of Segni under the name "Velletri and Segni". The final merger of the two dioceses took place on September 30, 1986.
