Joseph Howard Hodges (born October 8, 1911 in Harpers Ferry , West Virginia , United States , † January 27, 1985 ) was Bishop of Wheeling .

Life

Joseph Howard Hodges received the sacrament of ordination for the Diocese of Richmond on December 8, 1935 .

On August 8, 1952, Pope Pius XII appointed him . the titular bishop of Rusadus and auxiliary bishop in Richmond. The Bishop of Richmond, Peter Leo Ireton , ordained him episcopal on October 15 of that year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Raleigh , Vincent Stanislaus Waters , and that of the Bishop of Pittsburgh , John Francis Dearden .

On May 24, 1961, Pope John XXIII appointed him . to Coadjutor Bishop von Wheeling . With the death of John Joseph Swint on November 23, 1962, he succeeded him as Bishop of Wheeling.

He participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.

He found his final resting place in the burial chapel of the Bishops of Wheeling at Mt. Calvary Cemetery .
