David Prescott Talley (born September 11, 1950 in Columbus , Georgia , USA ) is an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Memphis .

Life

Originally a Baptist, David Talley converted to Catholicism. Before deciding to become a priest, he worked as a social worker with abused children for ten years.

The Archbishop of Atlanta , Eugene Antonio Marino SSJ , ordained him a priest on June 3, 1989 . He received his doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome . After his return to the USA he worked, among other things, in the pastoral ministry and at the church court. In 2001 Pope John Paul II bestowed him the title of Papal Honorary Prelate . In 2003 he went to parish pastoral care. Under his leadership, the new building of St. John Neumann Church in Lilburn was built in 2010 , before he took over the Saint Brigid's parish in Johns Creek the following year .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on January 3, 2013 titular bishop of Lambaesis and auxiliary bishop in Atlanta . The Archbishop of Atlanta, Wilton Daniel Gregory , ordained him episcopal on April 2 of that year ; Co- consecrators were Luis Rafael Zarama Pasqualetto , Auxiliary Bishop in Atlanta, and Gregory John Hartmayer OFMConv , Bishop of Savannah .

On 21 September 2016 it appointed Pope Francis to Coadjutor Bishop of Alexandria . The inauguration took place on November 7th of the same year.

With the resignation of Ronald Paul Herzog on February 2, 2017, he succeeded him as Bishop of Alexandria.

On March 5, 2019, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Memphis. The inauguration took place on April 2nd of the same year.
