Raymundo Joseph Peña

Raymundo Joseph Peña (born February 19, 1934 in Corpus Christi , Texas , USA ) is emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Brownsville .

Life

The Bishop of Corpus Christi , Mariano Simon Garriga , ordained him a priest on May 25, 1957 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on October 16, 1976 titular bishop of Trisipa and auxiliary bishop in San Antonio . The Archbishop of San Antonio, Francis James Furey , donated him episcopal ordination on December 13 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Patrick Fernández Flores , auxiliary bishop in San Antonio, and Thomas Joseph Drury , bishop of Corpus Christi.

He was named Bishop of El Paso on April 29, 1980, and was appointed to the office on June 18 of the same year. He was named Bishop of Brownsville on May 23, 1994, and was installed in office on August 6 of the next year. On December 9, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation request submitted for reasons of age.
