Helmut Holder

Helmut Hölder (born January 18, 1915 in Stuttgart ; † August 26, 2014 there ) was a German geologist and paleontologist .

Helmut Hölder was already a fossil collector as a teenager with contact to the Stuttgart Natural History Museum ( Fritz Berckhemer , Reinhold Seemann ) and studied geology and palaeontology at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen (as well as in Aachen and Königsberg) from 1935 , where he received his doctorate in 1939 (“Geological investigations in the area of ​​Lauchheim (Ostalb) ”). During the Second World War he was an officer and was wounded. From 1945 he was assistant and from 1950 conservator at the Geological-Paleontological Institute and Museum of the University of Tübingen . He was also an adjunct university professor there. In 1963 he became professor for paleontology at the University of Münster . In 1980 he retired . He moved back to Stuttgart, where he volunteered in the Jura collection at the Natural History Museum .

Hölder wrote popular science books on paleontology and a history of geology and palaeontology that stood out through extensive literary comments .

In 1987 he became an honorary member of the Palaeontological Society and in 1995 of the Society for Natural History in Württemberg . He was editor of the paleontological journal for a long time.

Bernhard Ziegler is one of his doctoral students .
