Toksook Bay , in the language of the local population, the Yupik : Nanakauyaq , is a city on Nelson Island in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta in western Alaska .
Toksook Bay was founded in 1964 by residents of the nearby village of Nightmute on the Bering Sea coast .
Toksook Bay had 590 inhabitants in the US Census in 2010, making it the largest settlement on the island. The airport has the IATA code OOK.
The population of Toksook Bay in 2000 consisted of almost 95% of the Central Alaska-Yupik-speaking Yupik, who are one of the indigenous people of Alaska . In 2000 they lived in 110 houses. The residents lived mainly from subsistence farming such as fishing and sealing, of which a little more than a quarter below the poverty line .
