Clarence Richard Silva (born August 6, 1949 in Honolulu , Hawaii ) is an American clergyman and bishop of Honolulu .

Live and act

Silva, an American of Portuguese descent, attended St. Joseph's Seminary in Mountain View , California and St. Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park . He received the sacrament of ordination on May 2, 1975 through the Bishop of Oakland , Floyd Lawrence Begin . He has served as pastor in Oakland , Hayward , Pittsburgh , El Cerrito, and Fremont . From 2004 to 2005 he was Vicar General of the Diocese of Oakland.

On May 17, 2005 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . as successor to Francis Xavier DiLorenzo as 5th Bishop of Honolulu . He was ordained episcopal by the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith , Archbishop William Joseph Levada , on July 21 of the same year. Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Oakland, Allen Henry Vigneron and his predecessor John Stephen Cummins .
