Mountain View is a city in Santa Clara County in the US state of California in the heart of Silicon Valley . Around 74,000 people live in Mountain View. The city owes its name to the view of the Santa Cruz Mountains .

The location is at the north end of California State Route 85 , where the road meets US Highway 101 and merges into California State Route 237 . The historic El Camino Real route touches the city.

Mountain View was home to 74,066 people according to the 2010 census . Ten years earlier, in 2000, it was a good 70,000, an increase of around 4,000.
