Intuit Inc. ( NASDAQ : INTU) is an American manufacturer of standard application software from California with around 8,000 employees worldwide and sales of around 4.7 billion US dollars (as of 2016). The company is listed on the S&P 500 and NASDAQ-100 stock indexes on the New York Stock Exchange.

Intuit was founded in 1983 by Scott Cook and Tom Proulx and launched the first version of the Quicken software ( online banking ) in 1984 . The Quickbooks software ( financial accounting ) was added later. Both programs were also distributed in Germany.

Intuit has offices in 13 countries, including the USA, Canada and the UK.

In 1999 the German branch was given up in favor of Lexware , with whom a strategic alliance was entered. The German versions of the programs Quicken and Quickbooks have since been marketed by Lexware.

In 2009, Mint.com was acquired by Intuit for $ 170 million.
