The founder and CEO of the company is Ding Lei . NetEase's revenue has grown steadily since it was founded. This is largely due to the investment in search engine technology and the specially developed online role-playing game Fantasy Westward Journey . The company is partnering with Coursera to deliver open online courses in China.

Video games

NetEase publishes specially produced video games and serves as a partner in the publication of games by western companies.

Specially developed game games include Fantasy Westward Journey II, Westward Journey Online II, two MMORPGs , and Rules of Survival and Knives Out , two games that belong to the battle royale genre . NetEase focuses on so-called free-to-play games that can be played for free and are financed through microtransactions. Many of the games are also geared towards smartphones. Although the games are hardly known in the West, they have a very large number of players. One year after its release , Knives Out has already been downloaded 250 million times.

NetEase is also a partner for various western companies that want to bring their games to the Chinese market. Video games licensed by NetEase in China include Minecraft , World of Warcraft , Starcraft II , Diablo III, and EVE Online .

In 2018, NetEase acquired a minority stake in the US-based video game developer Bungie , which is known for its Halo and Destiny game series, for $ 100 million .
