history

Dexcom was founded in 1999 by Scott Glenn, John Burd, Lauren Otsuki, Ellen Preston and Bret Megargel. In 2006, Dexcom received approval from the Food and Drug Administration for a continuous glucose measurement system that provides up to 288 readings every 24 hours for three days. The second generation, which provides seven-day readings, was approved in May 2007. In 2008, Dexcom announced that it would partner with Insulet Corporation, Animas Corporation and Edwards Lifesciences to develop a continuously measuring glucose sensor for intensive care units . The cooperation with Insulet was ended in 2013. In order to make the new generation G5 and G6 compatible with Tandem's insulin pumps, a contract was signed with Tandem Diabetes Care in 2015 . The devices were approved in 2016 and 2018.
