Align Technology is a manufacturer of digital 3D scanners and plastic rails for the clear aligners in orthodontics (orthodontics). Align Technology is headquartered in San Jose ( California ), and is part of the stock index NASDAQ-100 . The company manufactures the plastic rails in Ciudad Juárez ( Mexico ) and the scanners in Israel .

history

Align Technology was founded in 1997 by Zia Chishti and Kelsey Wirth and began developing a clear aligner. Align received FDA approval in 1998 to market the Invisalign system, which was first marketed in 2000. Align Technology went public on January 26, 2001.

In March 2011, Align acquired the Israeli company Cadent for $ 190 million. Cadent manufactured intraoral scanners with 3D imaging as well as software to display the captured images and to plan the treatment.

The company's sales reached $ 1 billion for the first time in 2016, and its products have been used by approximately 8% of people with braces . In 2017, the company faced the challenge that the patents for its Invisalign system expired in October 2017 and competition for generics began.
