The Cerner Corporation is an American company from North Kansas City , Missouri . It was founded in 1979 and develops information technology for the healthcare sector . The global company employs around 27,000 people (as of January 2018). Cerner was listed on the NASDAQ-100 in 2009 and the S&P 500 in 2010 .

history

Cerner was founded in 1979 as PGI & Associates by three work colleagues Neal Patterson, Paul Gorup and Cliff Illig, who left Arthur Andersen at the time to start their own company. In 1982, PathNet® was launched, the first product used for the first time at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa , Oklahoma . A few years later, Cerner was able to secure a total of $ 1.5 million in venture capital from First Chicago Capital Corporation, thus driving the company's development forward.

In 1986, Cerner went public, with sales of just 17 million dollars. As early as 1992 sales reached the mark of 100 million dollars and rose to more than one billion dollars by 2005.

The Cerner Healthe Clinic opened at its North Kansas City headquarters in 2006 and a new data center opened the following year. In addition, contracts were signed with new clients in Spain and Egypt. In the same year the Etreby Computer Company was taken over.

In 2009, Cerner founded the Tiger Institute for Health Innovation in collaboration with the University of Missouri and took over another company, IMC Health Care.

In February 2015, Cerner took over Health Services from Siemens AG for $ 1.3 billion.

Brent Shafer took over as CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cerner Corporation on February 1, 2018. He succeeded company co-founder Cliff Illig, who had temporarily taken over the post after the death of Neal Patterson in July 2017.
