Valeriu Gagiu

Valeriu Gagiu (also Valeriu Gajiu ; Russian Валериу Георгиевич Гажиу / Valeriu Georgijewitsch Gaschiu ; born May 1, 1938 in Chișinău ; † December 21, 2010 ibid) was a Soviet - Moldovan director, film producer and screenwriter.

Life

After graduating from school in 1956, he first attended the Pedagogical Institute in his Moldovan hometown of Kishinev, before enrolling at the Gerasimov Institute for Cinematography in Moscow in 1957 . He completed his studies there in 1963, and in the same year his first short film, Uliza sluschajet ( The street listens ), was released. He had already worked on the screenplay of Tschelobek idjot sa solnzem in 1961 , and in 1966 Gorkije sjorna was his first own film, for which he wrote the screenplay and directed. Gagiu then directed and wrote scripts in numerous other films, for example in 1980 in Where are you, love? with Sofija Rotaru in the lead role. In 2010 Gagiu died in his hometown at the age of 72. In the same year he was awarded as a People's Artist of the now independent Moldova.
