People's Artist (honorary title)
People's Artist is an honorary title in the Soviet Union , the Eastern Bloc and in the post-Soviet states . The title has been awarded since 1919 and is considered the most prestigious award in the field of performing arts. The honorary title “People's Artist” is only awarded to artists who already hold the honorary title “Honored Artist”, which is lower in the national award hierarchy.
