List of German champions in show jumping

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German show jumping championships have been held annually as a tournament since 1959. The men's championship is also open to women, but there is also the Amazons competition, which the women decide among themselves. In 2008 a woman won the men's championship for the first time.

Regulations

From 1948 to 1955, the German Show Jumping Championships were calculated based on the victories achieved in the past year, and from 1956 to 1958 also the 2nd and 3rd places.

The men's championship consists of four rounds, which are based on the sequence of the international championships: On Friday, a national prize-like jumping with two identical rounds, on Sunday a very difficult course with an open moat and a somewhat easier round without a moat, comparable to an individual final. The best 25 of the first two rounds are eligible to start the two final rounds. The scores of all four rounds are added to the overall score, if there is a tie between several riders in the first place, a jump-off decides on the medal award.

The women's championship consists of three rounds. The top 25 of the first round are entitled to start for the two final rounds. Here the scores of the three rounds are added to the overall score, if there is a tie between several riders in the first place, a jump-off decides on the medal award.

meaning

For the longest time of its existence, the best rider-horse pairs in German show jumping competed in the German men's championships. In the course of the 2000s, the German championship lost its importance. The discussion about the importance of the German championship escalated after René Tebbel was not nominated for the European championship team in 2007 despite three championship titles in a row.

After the German championship had constantly changing venues until 2007, Balve became a permanent venue for the championship. Unlike in dressage, the German championships are not a fixed viewing tournament for the respective international championship of the year. Due to the extremely dense tournament calendar, the A-squad riders are often (partly) at the start of tournaments of the Nations Cup and the Global Champions Tour taking place in parallel . In the meantime, riders from the "second row" have the opportunity to recommend themselves for larger tasks at the German championships - for example, to get a starting place at the German Nations Cup tournament .
