Daniel Deußer 2018

Daniel Deußer (born August 13, 1981 in Wiesbaden ) is a German show jumper .

Athletic career

Daniel Deußer on Irenice Horta at the CSIYH * in Wiesbaden 2015

Daniel Deußer comes from a family of equestrians. He started riding in the stable of his uncle (the former Hessian master Helge Deußer). At the age of 15 he won a jumping competition in the advanced level for the first time.

Daniel Deußer began his apprenticeship as a horse manager in the stable of Siegfried Herröder, Angelina Herröder's father . At the end of 2001 he received an offer from Franke Sloothaak to work for him as a rider . At the European Championships for Young Riders (age group 19 to 21 years) Deusser celebrated his first major international success in 2002 with fourth place in the team ranking.

He also got in contact with Jan Tops' stable through Sloothaak . In his trading stable in Valkenswaard , the Netherlands , he became a rider in the summer of 2006, succeeding Steve Guerdat .

In 2007 he was able to catch up with the world's top show jumpers with successes in jumping competitions at CSI 5 * tournaments, such as sixth place in the 5-star Grand Prix in Valkenswaard and a victory in the King's Cup in Madrid. His greatest success to date was second place in the 2007 World Cup final .

At the CSIO 5 * Hickstead 2010, Deusser contested for the first time, under the leadership of team boss Sönke Sönksen , a Nations Cup in the “Rider” age group for Germany. Deusser attracted attention when he reached the second round of the Grand Prix at the CHIO Aachen 2010, but here with Caballero overcame the (significantly higher) catch stand instead of the poles at an obstacle and was thus eliminated. In addition to the horses of Jan Tops, Deußer rode the horses of Athina Onassis for correction.

At the end of April 2012, Deußer left Jan Tops' stable. He succeeded Nina Fagerström as a rider at the Stephex Stables in Wolvertem, Belgium . Deußer moved in with his partner here, and he was also looking for a new challenge.

The first half of 2013 was a successful one for Deußer, crowned by his victory at the German championships with Cornet d'Amour . This continued with the team silver medal at the European Championships in Herning and culminated in winning the World Cup final in April 2014 , each time with Cornet d'Amour . A month later, Deusser defended his German championship title, this time with the nine-year-old gelding First Class van Eeckelghem . At the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Caen , Deußer achieved sixth place with Cornet d'Amour in the individual competition and fourth place with the team. At the European Championships in 2015 , Deußer and Cornet d'Amour were part of the German team, which won the silver medal here.

Daniel Deusser played his first Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 . With First Class van Eeckelghem he was part of the German team, which was able to secure the bronze medal in the jump-off against Canada. In the individual ranking he came in ninth place with four penalty points. For winning the bronze medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, he received the Silver Laurel Leaf.

Deusser's nomination for Nations Cups in 2017 and the 2017 European Championships was not made after he (like Christian Ahlmann ) had refrained from signing the required executive framework agreement. In 2018, too, he did not sign the agreement that precludes going to ordinary courts by means of an arbitration agreement . In March 2019, the cadre framework agreement for all riders was adjusted with regard to the treatment books, among other things. As a result, Deußer was reassigned to the championship squad, at the end of May 2019 he contested his first Nations Cup at the CSIO Rome since the 2016 Nations Cup final.

In the 2018/2019 indoor season, Deußer dominated the Western European League , and at the World Cup finals he narrowly missed out on a place on the podium. At the CSIO 5 * Sopot 2019, Deußer was the dominant rider with victories in the individual ratings of all three jumping over 1.60 meters. Five weeks later at the CHIO Aachen, things went just as well for him. a. Third place in the European Prize, victory in the North Rhine-Westphalia Prize and second place in the Grand Prix, he was by far the most successful rider of the tournament. At the European Championships in 2019 , Deußer took part in a team silver medal for the third time, and after bad luck, he finished the individual standings in 14th place in the first round of the individual finals.

In April 2015, Deußer achieved first place in the FEI show jumping world rankings for the first time . He succeeded again in January 2017.

Private

Deusser's partner is the daughter of the former Belgian show jumper Eric Wauters . Their daughter was born in mid-February 2015.

Doping / conflict with the German Equestrian Association

The success at the 2007 World Cup final was overshadowed by a positive doping test of his horse, which could not be confirmed with sufficient certainty, so that his placement was not denied.

At the Wellington Masters Horse Show 2008 in the USA , Deusser's horse Pristanna tested positive for the substance reserpine , which was classified as doping according to international regulations. Five picograms (this corresponds to 0.0000000000005 grams) of the tranquilizer Request II could be detected in the sample. For this he was banned from participating in tournaments in the USA for three months (January 1 to March 31, 2008). Since Deußer circumvented this ban by starting tournaments in Europe, the German Equestrian Association (FN) refused to grant him a tournament license for national and international tournaments for five months from April 24, 2008. Deusser successfully appealed against this ban in court.

After a difficult legal tug-of-war, the FN's Grand Court of Arbitration decided on February 20, 2009 to grant Daniel Deußer the annual tournament license for the current 2009 season with immediate effect. In September 2009, the FN received the recommendation from the DOSB Riding Committee, headed by Udo Steiner , to take Deusser and the riders ( Rene Tebbel , Ludger Beerbaum and Marco Kutscher ) back into the federal squad, but on the condition that their horses be treated with every treatment to discuss with the team vet. A civil case against the German Equestrian Association due to claims for damages (lost possible prize money) ended in November 2017 with an out-of-court settlement.
