Marco Kutscher (born May 2, 1975 in Norden , Lower Saxony ) is a German show jumper . His outstanding individual successes were an Olympic bronze medal in 2004 and the European championship title in 2005.

Career

Kutscher was discovered by the multiple Olympic champion Ludger Beerbaum , who has been using him in his stable as a rider for young horses since 1999. In 2003 Kutscher was able to win the German championship in Gera as his first major success .

With the Olympic Games 2004 in Athens , he won with his horse Montender the bronze medal in singles. However, the East Frisian was only subsequently moved onto the podium after the original winner Cian O'Connor had to surrender his gold medal to Rodrigo Pessoa due to disqualification . A similar situation had arisen in the team competition: Originally, Marco Kutscher won team gold together with his German colleagues in Athens - the third for a German team in a row and the ninth overall, but the gold medal had to go to the team afterwards due to the disqualification of Ludger Beerbaum Team of the Americans. The Germans were placed in third place.

Nevertheless, on March 16, 2005, he and his team received the Silver Laurel Leaf.

In 2005 Marco Kutscher won the European Championships in San Patrignano (Italy) both with the team and individually.

At the 2011 World Cup finals , Kutscher was in the lead with cash up to and including the first lap of the third special stage , but in the end fell back to fourth place.

Marco Kutscher successfully completed his horse management exam in April 2011. He lived and trained in Riesenbeck until the summer of 2014 , where he worked in Ludger Beerbaum's stable. Since then he has been running a tournament stable in Bad Essen together with Eva Bitter .

Olympic Games 2008

Marco Kutscher took part in the 2008 Summer Olympics with Cornet Obolensky as part of the German show jumping team. After the first round of the team competition, which Kutscher completed with 13 penalty points, a nurse gave Marco Kutscher's horse a syringe with arnica and lactanase . Cornet Obolensky then suffered a brief attack of weakness, but was used the following day in the second round of the Nations Cup, although the administered drugs were not registered with the tournament veterinarian. This incident was only made public through media reports and testimony after the Olympic Games; a doping sample was not taken during the competition. With a judgment of June 15, 2010, the FEI decided to subsequently disqualify Kutscher for this illegal medication and, moreover, to sentence him to a five-figure fine. However, due to the length of the proceedings, the FEI Tribunal waived an additional ban on Marco Kutscher.

Since Christian Ahlmann , a member of the German show jumping Olympic team, had already been disqualified (however, due to doping), there are only two results left to be evaluated by German show jumpers, so that the German show jumping team has no result in the team evaluation of the 2008 Olympic Games ( at least the results of three team riders would be required).

After the 2008 Olympics

After a highly successful 2010 season (including second in the Global Champions Tour overall ranking), Kutscher was nominated for the 2010 World Equestrian Games with cash . However, due to an injury to Cash shortly before he left for the competitions, he had to forego participation, and reserve rider Janne Friederike Meyer replaced him in the team.

Marco Kutscher was the first rider to receive a bonus of 250,000 euros at the Longines Masters Grand Slam Indoor of Show Jumping created in 2015 . He received this for winning two of three Grand Slam prizes, in Los Angeles (October 2015) and in Hong Kong (February 2016).

In February 2016 he was ranked 18th in the FEI show jumping world rankings .

Private

Marco Kutscher lives with his partner, the German show jumper Eva Bitter , in Bad Essen. He has two daughters from a previous relationship.
