FEI Nations Cup 2012 (show jumping)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The FEI Nations Cup 2012 for show jumping was the fourth season of the FEI Nations Cup , formerly Meydan FEI Nations Cup , as the successor to the Samsung Super League . He stands in a tradition of Nations Cup tournaments in show jumping that has lasted for over a hundred years.

Course of the tournament series

In 2012, the series covered the period from May 10th to August 19th. The last stop in the series took place again, as in 2009 and 2010, at the traditional tournament in Dublin.

All Nations Cup tournaments took place in Europe; eight of the best nations in show jumping were eligible to start. At the end of the season, two national teams are to be relegated to the “FEI Nations Cup Promotional Leagues”, a kind of “second league” of the show jumping Nations Cup. These leagues resulted in the two promoted teams in the 2012 season, Switzerland and Sweden.

It was not clear for a long time whether this promotion and relegation mode would be used at the end of the season. At the beginning of the season, the Saudi Equestrian Fund, founded by the Saudi King Abdullah ibn Abd al-Aziz , was presented as the new sponsor of the Nations Cup series. At the end of 2012 it was decided that the two descending teams will belong to the Europa II league of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup 2013 , while the six remaining teams and the two promoted teams will be assigned to the new Europa I league.

All eight tests took place in the context of CSIO 5 * tournaments, the highest category in show jumping. The special stages were held on Friday afternoons. The exception to this was the Nations Cup at the CHIO Aachen , which takes place on Thursday evening with media coverage.

The announcement of the tests provided for a jumping competition with two identical rounds and a possible jump- off, the height of the obstacles is up to 1.60 meters. The exams are endowed with 200,000 each . Four riders represented their country in each Nations Cup, and the worst result per nation was deleted for each round. The penalty points of the remaining riders were added. If two or more teams were in first place after two laps, there was a jump-off for victory.

media

In German-speaking countries, Eurosport showed a one-hour summary of the Nations Cup on one of the following Wednesday evenings. The exams were also regularly broadcast live in their respective host countries.

In addition, the FEI broadcast all of the series' national prizes on its website for a fee.

The exams

1st test: France

The traditional start of the Nations Cup series is the French Nations Cup tournament. This took place in 2012 in La Baule-Escoublac from May 10th to 13th. The special stage took place on May 11, 2012 from 2:05 p.m. local time.

Right in the first test of the 2012 season, the victory between two teams had to be stung. The first rider in the jump-off for the Netherlands was Albert Voorn , who had ended his seven-year break from international sport a year earlier and was now riding a Nations Cup again for the first time in La Baule. The victory went to Belgium, whose rider Gregory Wathelet showed the faster lap with his horse in the jump-off with the same number of penalty points. The course to be contested was conceived by Frédéric Cottier and Serge Houtmann.

4th test: Netherlands

After a year in late summer, the Netherlands' Nations Cup tournament, the CHIO Rotterdam, will be held again in June 2012. The tournament will take place from June 20th to June 24th, 2012.

The show jumping Nations Cup competition was held on June 22nd from 4:30 p.m. The course was built by Louis Koninckx from the Netherlands. The test was characterized by a tight time limit, many riders had to record time penalties. The dominant team in the second round was Sweden, whose team remained completely without time and obstacle errors in the second round. However, the German team showed a strong performance in the first lap, so that they won the test with a margin of one point.

5th exam: Germany

At the beginning of July 2012, the Nations Cup stopped in Germany: the CHIO Aachen will take place over two weeks from June 29th to July 8th, 2012; the special test was carried out on July 5th, 2012.

The German Nations Cup tournament is held in the Aachen he Soers . The main stadium in Aachen is the venue for the show jumping competitions at the CHIO . For some years now, the Nations Cup competition in Aachen has not been held on Friday, unlike the other tournaments in the Nations Cup series. Instead, the exam will be held on Thursday evening from 7.30 p.m., the second round took place under floodlights.

The long distances on the large Aachen square, together with demanding obstacle tasks, led to many mistakes in the teams. After the first round, only three teams had a realistic chance of victory: the Netherlands with eight penalty points, Germany with four penalty points and France, which was in the lead with only one time penalty. The remaining five teams had between 12 and 17 penalty points.

In the second lap, the German team took the lead. However, after Janne-Friederike Meyer recorded eight penalty points and Marco Kutscher with his stallion Cornet Obolensky (as in the first round) scored 16 penalty points, the lead could no longer be maintained. Since the Netherlands also had to record several mistakes in the second lap and their last rider did not start, the victory went to the French team.

6th test: Sweden

The Swedish stage of the FEI Nations Cup was held at the Falsterbo Horse Show in Skanör med Falsterbo . The tournament will take place from July 12th to 15th, 2012. The special test was held on July 13, 2012 from 2:30 p.m.

After the last chance for many riders to present themselves for the Olympic Games a week earlier in Aachen, only horse-rider pairs that were not intended for the Olympic equestrian competitions were sent to Falsterbo. The Swedish team was an exception to this: Sweden offered its team intended for the Olympic Games in and under the stable for the domestic Nations Cup.

Corresponding to the weaker participants, the teams had to record many obstacle errors, and there were hardly any time penalties at all. After two laps, three teams had 12 penalty points as a result and were thus in the lead. These teams each sent one rider to the jump-off, with a clear lead of three seconds Jens Fredricson won with Lunatic for the home team.

7. Examination: United Kingdom

The seventh station was the FEI Nations Cup in the United Kingdom. The British stage will be held from July 19-22, 2012 as part of the Royal International Horse Show in Hickstead .

Only a week and 60 kilometers away from the Olympic equestrian competitions , the horses starting at the Olympic Games were missing from the Hickstead Nations Cup. Often riders from the "second row" got a starting place, but Olympic riders started with their second horses. The course was created by Bob Ellis, who will also be the course designer at the Olympic Games.

After the first round, three teams - Germany, France and Ireland - were in first place. With two faultless riders in the second lap, the Irish team managed to take first place alone at the end of the test.
